Voluntary JD Declaration Form

The most common way Johne's disease is transmitted between farms is through the trading of stock. To reduce the spread of disease in this way the Johne's Research Group have developed the Voluntary Johne's Disease Declaration Form.

This form has been reviewed by farmers and deer industry representatives and outlines the information that should be discussed with regard to Johne's disease in deer for sale.

The form is in the best interests of the seller, enabling them to demonstrate their awareness of the disease and promote their on-farm control programme. It is also in the best interests of the buyer to ensure that the deer they purchase have minimal risk of disease.

Use of the form is comletely voluntary and it has no legal status.

It consists of twelve questions describing the way in which Johne's disease is kept off the farm, how it is managed on farm, and recent testing results for Johne's and tuberculosis. The more questions that can be answered, the greater the value of the form to potential buyers.

Copies of the form are available here.
